Basic health information for travelers to Cameroon

• A yellow fever vaccination is required if over one year of age and planning to enter the country.

• Water especially outside the main cities should be considered potentially unhealthy and all travellers are advised to bring along or buy plenty of bottled water to drink. All food and meats should be well cooked and served hot before eating. Fruits should be peeled and milk based dairy products avoided where possible.

• Violent theft, carjacking and similar criminal acts are frequent in several major cities including Douala and Yaoundé. Visitors are urged to keep their valuables in a safe place at all times and to take care if ordering a taxi to make sure that the taxi is a legitimate one. Incidents of police corruption have been reported so visitors are advised to avoid drawing their attention and to keep a passport copy available at all times.
